This Clarkson’s Farm Star Is Proving That Farming Isn’t Just for Men – Harriet Cowan Breaks Farming Stereotypes.
Clarkson’s Farm Star Harriet Cowan Claps Back at Sexist Remark: “I Am a Farmer”
Fans rally behind the 24-year-old as she challenges outdated views on women in agriculture
Clarkson’s Farm breakout star Harriet Cowan has taken a stand against a sexist comment questioning her role in farming, sparking widespread support from fans and fellow female farmers.
The 24-year-old, who appeared in Season 4 of the hit Prime Video series, shared the encounter on TikTok, recounting an uncomfortable exchange with a man she described as a “60-year-old bloke.”
“He asked what I did for work,” Harriet explained. “When I said I’m a nurse and a farmer, he replied, ‘Wait, you’re a woman farmer? You mean you’re a farmer’s wife?’”
In the video, Harriet responds repeatedly and firmly: “I am a farmer.”
Her calm yet pointed clapback quickly went viral, with thousands praising her refusal to let her work be diminished by outdated gender roles.
Fans and Female Farmers Show Their Support
Harriet’s post resonated deeply with many women in agriculture who shared similar experiences.
“This is so true. I’m also a farmer but always get called a farmer’s wife,” one commenter wrote.
“I love that you went into an industry dominated by men and are showing them that women can be just as good—if not better! Show ’em, hun,” another added.
Since her appearance on Clarkson’s Farm, Harriet has gained a devoted online following for her down-to-earth videos documenting farm life and promoting gender equality in the industry.
“Just Because I Wear Makeup Doesn’t Mean I Can’t Farm”
In an earlier interview with the BBC, Harriet addressed the stereotypes she faces as a woman in agriculture.
“When people think of a farmer, they imagine a 60-year-old man in a checked shirt with a beer belly,” she said.
“But women are farmers too. Just because I’m a small blonde who likes to curl her hair and wear makeup doesn’t mean I can’t do the job.”
Harriet added that her mission is to challenge the outdated notion that men belong in the field and women belong in the kitchen.
“I’m trying to change the norm—where the man is the farmer and the woman is the stay-at-home wife and cook. That’s just not today’s reality.”
Changing the Face of Farming
Harriet’s bold response has not only struck a chord with fans but also highlighted the growing visibility of women in farming—especially through platforms like TikTok and shows like Clarkson’s Farm.
As one fan put it:
“You’re not just farming land—you’re planting seeds of change.”
And for Harriet Cowan, that’s exactly the point.
