Kaleb Cooper Reveals How Three Chickens Changed His Life Forever.

From Eggs to Fame: How Clarkson’s Farm Star Kaleb Cooper Built His Farming Dream

Kaleb Cooper may now be a household name thanks to Clarkson’s Farm, but his journey into agriculture didn’t begin with television cameras or celebrity fame. Instead, it started with something far simpler: three chickens gifted to him on his 13th birthday.

Speaking in a recent interview with the BBC, the 27-year-old contractor and author reflected on his humble beginnings and the determination that has shaped his career. “I’m not from a farming background at all, but I learned from a very young age that I love farming,” he said.

For many teenagers, a birthday gift might be a video game console or the latest phone. For Cooper, however, the chickens his mother bought him marked the first step in building a business. “I started my first company at thirteen, selling chicken eggs around Chipping Norton with a basket,” he explained.

What began with three chickens quickly expanded into something much larger. “Within two months of my 13th birthday, I had 450,” he recalled. Armed with youthful energy and a sharp sense for business, Kaleb went door-to-door in his hometown, selling eggs and learning valuable lessons about entrepreneurship, hard work, and customer relationships.

Drawn to the Business of Farming

While many assume farming is all about livestock and fields, Cooper was initially captivated by the business side of agriculture. “I think actually the business aspect of farming drew me to it,” he admitted. That curiosity soon extended to machinery—tractors in particular—before expanding into a full passion for every aspect of farm life.

By the age of 16, Kaleb had moved beyond chickens. He had invested in sheep, purchased his first tractor, and launched his own contracting business. “Because I wasn’t born into the industry I thought, ‘I’m never going to be handed down a farm,’ so I thought I’d become the next best thing—a farm contractor,” he told BBC Radio Oxford.

His company provided services to other farmers: ploughing, planting, harvesting, and managing land before moving on to the next client. “I turn up at other people’s farms, farm their land for them, and then leave again. We’ve now been going for 11 years—it’s amazing,” he said with pride.

A Fan Favourite on Clarkson’s Farm

Kaleb’s sharp wit, straightforward nature, and occasional exasperation at Jeremy Clarkson’s farming missteps have made him a standout character on Clarkson’s Farm. The Amazon Prime series, which documents Clarkson’s efforts to run Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire, has not only entertained millions but also highlighted the daily challenges farmers face.

Despite the fame, Kaleb remains grounded, still deeply connected to the land and his local community. He frequently emphasizes that farming is far from glamorous—something the show has helped convey to a wider audience.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Alongside his contracting work and television appearances, Kaleb has also turned to writing. His latest children’s book, Kaleb’s Farmyard Tales: Escaping Animals and Runaway Tractors, introduces young readers to the joys and realities of farm life.

“I’m a firm believer that young kids should know how to grow a potato, should know where their milk comes from, where their beef and lamb comes from—and how hard it is to produce,” he said, explaining the motivation behind the book.

For Kaleb, this mission is personal. As a father of three, he relishes the opportunity to pass on his passion to the next generation. “I’m very lucky to be on the farm every day, so my kids can come and help me and actually find it’s really enjoyable,” he shared. “Of course, as a farmer, I want them to follow in my footsteps, but at the same time I want them to be happy and enjoy what they do.”

A Story of Determination

Kaleb Cooper’s path into farming may not have been traditional, but it reflects persistence, ingenuity, and a genuine love of the land. From selling eggs door to door as a teenager to becoming one of Britain’s most recognizable young farmers, his story resonates with fans because it is both relatable and inspiring.

In a world where fewer young people are choosing farming, Kaleb’s journey shows that with passion, resourcefulness, and a little entrepreneurial spirit, even three chickens can grow into a life-changing career.
