Clarkson's Farm star calls 999 after 'unbelievable' sighting during heatwave - Gloucestershire Live

“What Is Going On in the World?” Kaleb Cooper Sounds the Alarm Over Fire Risk in Cotswolds

Kaleb Cooper, the breakout star of Clarkson’s Farm, issued a stern warning to the public after witnessing what he called an “unbelievable” act of irresponsibility during a severe heatwave in the Cotswolds.

On Saturday evening (July 12), Cooper took to Instagram to share his shock and concern after spotting two Chinese lanterns floating over the Chipping Norton area, a region already under high fire risk due to the ongoing dry spell. The Oxfordshire farming contractor, who works alongside Jeremy Clarkson on the hit Amazon Prime series, didn’t just rant — he called emergency services via 999 to report the sighting.

A Dangerous Sight in Dry Conditions

In a short video posted to his 2.9 million Instagram followers, Kaleb spoke directly to camera in a dimly lit field, his frustration evident:

Kaleb Cooper has gone global thanks to Clarkson's Farm

“I can’t quite believe what I’m seeing at the moment. I’ve just called this in to 999… someone has felt the need to light two Chinese lanterns in and around the Chipping Norton area. But what goes through someone’s mind when they decide to do this in the middle of a heatwave?”

With little to no rainfall since March, the Cotswolds countryside is at significant risk of wildfires, making the use of open flame sky lanterns especially reckless.

Concern Echoed by Fans and Fire Officials

Kaleb’s post quickly drew hundreds of concerned comments from fans, many applauding him for speaking out. One follower wrote:

“People need educating, mate. Spread the message.”

Another added:

“They should never do this for any celebration… They set fire to someone’s house and barn when they landed near me. Plus, livestock can ingest them when they land. It’s like balloon releases — it’s littering, pure and simple. Should be banned.”

Fire Services Issue Clear Warning

The Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service has long warned the public about the use of sky lanterns, especially during dry spells. According to their official guidance:

“Sky lanterns are a beautiful sight — but the potential damage they can cause is significant. They are not only a fire hazard but also a danger to livestock, agriculture, thatched properties, and hazardous material sites.”

They emphasize that once released, the lanterns’ flight paths and landing zones are completely unpredictable. Even if a fuel cell appears extinguished mid-air, it can reignite upon landing and cause fires, mislead emergency services, and even harm aircraft.

Kaleb’s Message: Think Before You Celebrate

Kaleb Cooper’s call to action is clear: common sense and responsibility must take priority, especially when the countryside is bone dry.

As temperatures continue to soar and wildfire risks increase, his message couldn’t be more timely. The farm life star may be known for his humor and honesty, but in this case, he’s deadly serious — lives, homes, and farms are at risk.
