Clarkson to Beckham: ‘You’d Better Not!’ – The Cotswolds Beer Banter Heats Up.
David Beckham and Jeremy Clarkson Trade Jabs in Friendly Cotswolds Banter
A cheeky exchange between two famous neighbors adds humor to life in the Oxfordshire countryside.
Celebrity Neighbors in the Heart of the Cotswolds
Life in the Cotswolds is anything but dull—especially when your neighbors are Sir David Beckham and Jeremy Clarkson. The two British icons, who live just miles apart in West Oxfordshire, have recently exchanged playful jabs in a humorous back-and-forth that’s giving fans a peek into their countryside camaraderie.
Beckham, the former Manchester United and England football star, has long lived in the area with his wife, fashion designer and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham. Clarkson, the Top Gear and Clarkson’s Farm star, has owned his Diddly Squat Farm since 2008, which has been the centerpiece of his hit Amazon Prime show since 2021.
Beckham’s Big Moment – and Clarkson’s Cheeky Response
The banter began when Beckham was invited to guest edit an upcoming issue of Country Life magazine. The honor coincided with his recent knighthood, further cementing his place among Britain’s elite figures.
In his column for The Times, Clarkson shared a private—but light-hearted—exchange the two had via a messaging app.
“I’m going to betray a loyalty here. This is from David,” Clarkson wrote.
“I said congratulations [on the guest edit], and he replied, ‘Thanks for your message; not official yet, but if it happens, I’ll have a nice pint of Stella.’”
That choice of beverage didn’t sit well with Clarkson—who owns his own beer brand, Hawkstone, brewed using barley from his farm.
“You had better f**king not,” Clarkson responded, clearly preferring Beckham support the local brew.
He added with his trademark wit:
“If he is going to drink anything that’s not Hawkstone, it should be Beck’s.”
Clarkson’s Farm Keeps Growing
While the banter has amused fans, Clarkson has also been busy expanding his farming empire on screen. Season 4 of Clarkson’s Farm recently dropped on Prime Video, featuring eight new episodes filled with rural chaos, clever innovation, and classic Clarkson humor.
And there’s more to come.
Clarkson has confirmed that filming for Season 5 is already underway, promising even more adventures (and likely more drama) from Diddly Squat in the near future.
A Cotswolds Friendship with a Side of Sass
Though the exchange between Beckham and Clarkson might sound like a clash of egos, it’s clear their friendship is grounded in mutual respect—and plenty of tongue-in-cheek teasing. Their light-hearted rivalry adds to the growing legend of celebrity life in the Cotswolds, where fame meets farmland in the most unexpected ways.
As long as Clarkson keeps brewing beer and Beckham keeps reaching new milestones, fans can expect this banter to continue flowing—pints and punchlines included.
