Todd and Julie Chrisley Reveal Life Behind Bars – No One Knows What They Went Through in Those 28 Months… Until Now.

Inside the Chrisleys’ Prison Journey: Todd and Julie Open Up About 28 Months Behind Bars

From filthy conditions to renewed faith and unlikely friendships, Todd and Julie Chrisley share what life was really like in federal prison.

Reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley were released from prison on May 28, 2025, after receiving presidential pardons from Donald Trump just one day earlier. The couple had been serving time since January 2023 after being found guilty of federal fraud and tax evasion, and were originally sentenced to a combined 19 years. Despite their convictions, they continue to maintain their innocence.

Now free, the Chrisleys are speaking out about the harsh realities, emotional toll, and surprising friendships they encountered during their 28-month incarceration.

“Disgustingly Filthy”: Todd and Julie on Prison Conditions

In a candid interview on Chris Cuomo’s show (December 8, 2024), Todd described Federal Prison Camp Pensacola as “disgustingly filthy,” alleging food was expired and inmates were being severely underfed.

“The food is dated… at least a year past expiration,” Todd said. “They’re literally starving these men to death… maybe 1,000 calories a day.”

He also revealed horrifying sanitary issues:

“Rats, squirrels in the food storage. They tore the ceiling out because of black mold and found a dead cat above the food.”

Meanwhile, Julie, who served time at Federal Medical Center Lexington, called her experience “scary” due to the facility’s proximity to high-security areas.

“I was [in] a satellite camp… but right next door there was razor wire, a fence, and all custody levels.”

Faith, Family, and Routine: How Todd Survived Prison Life

Speaking at a press conference after his release, Todd referred to his post-prison look as the “BOP glow” (Bureau of Prisons). He shared that his time inside allowed him to focus on spiritual growth and self-care.

“I read. I worked out every morning. My walk with Christ became deeper… I talked to my daughter every day, to Chase, to Greyson… and emailed with Julie.”

Though lighthearted about Botox, Todd emphasized that faith and daily structure kept him grounded.

The Emotional Reunion: “It Was Overwhelming”

After being separated for more than two years, Todd and Julie were finally reunited on May 28, 2025.

“It was overwhelming,” Todd admitted. “We’ve been together over 30 years… raised our children, faced cancer, everything. It was great to be home.”

Unexpected Friendships Behind Bars

Despite fears of being targeted, Todd said he quickly bonded with other inmates—especially a man named Jig, who helped him on day one.

“I thought I wasn’t supposed to take anything for free… but Jig said, ‘I still got to do what I got to do.’ From that day, we became best buddies.”

Julie, too, found friendship in unexpected places. One of the first women she met warned her she would “hate” it—but ultimately became her bunkmate and support system.

“It was very overwhelming at first. People knew who I was. But one girl got me to my room and helped me find a bed — a nice one, actually.”

What’s Next for the Chrisleys?

With their release behind them and a renewed sense of purpose, Todd and Julie have returned to the public eye, using their platforms — including daughter Savannah’s “Unlocked” podcast — to share their story and rebuild their image.

Whether their next chapter includes a return to reality TV or advocacy work remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the Chrisleys are back, unfiltered, and determined to tell their side of the story.
