Julie Chrisley Reveals Why Todd Would Be Heartbroken If Savannah Skipped a Big Wedding.
Julie Chrisley Reveals Why Todd Would Be “Devastated” If Savannah Chose a Small Wedding
Julie Chrisley is opening up about her husband Todd’s hopes for their daughter Savannah’s future — and why skipping a big wedding would break his heart.
The Chrisley Knows Best matriarch recently appeared on the Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley podcast, where she candidly shared her perspective on Savannah’s relationship choices, marriage expectations, and how her husband Todd envisions walking his daughter down the aisle one day.
Todd’s Dream for His Daughter’s Wedding
During the podcast, Savannah, 28, asked her mom how her father would react if she opted out of a traditional ceremony and decided to marry in a smaller, more intimate setting.
Julie didn’t hold back:
“Your dad would have a heart attack,” she told her daughter. “If that’s what you really wanted, no, I wouldn’t be devastated. But your dad would. I would be devastated for him because he has always wanted that beautiful wedding for his girls.”
The reality star added that Todd was disappointed when Savannah’s older sister Lindsie eloped years earlier, leaving the family out of the celebration. For Todd, Savannah represented another opportunity to experience the big family wedding he had always imagined.
Savannah’s Changing View of Marriage
Savannah, who has endured a series of highly publicized relationships, admitted her perspective on weddings has shifted dramatically over the years.
“See, that’s the thing … I used to want the huge, big wedding, and the older I get, the less I want it,” she said. “You spend all that money for one day.”
Instead, Savannah envisions something simpler and more personal — perhaps an intimate destination ceremony in Italy or the Cayman Islands.
Her comments reflect a growing trend among millennials and Gen Z couples who are increasingly choosing smaller, cost-effective weddings over extravagant, traditional affairs.
A Complicated Dating History
Savannah’s romantic life has been in the spotlight for years. She was previously engaged to former hockey player Nic Kerdiles, who tragically passed away in September 2023. Afterward, she dated ex-football player Robert Shiver, though the two split in April 2024 after nearly two years together. She also briefly dated country singer Nate Smith.
Julie pointed out that Savannah’s dating choices have been wide-ranging:
“You have no type,” she said with a laugh. “You just literally go from one end of the spectrum to the other.”
But Julie also emphasized the qualities she hopes Savannah will find in a future partner: someone strong, successful, and above all, decent. She suggested that an older man without children might be the best match for her daughter, though she warned that Savannah’s fiery personality requires someone who can stand their ground.
Savannah’s Own Vision of Love
For her part, Savannah said she believes she’ll soften in the right relationship.
“When I’m with the right person, I will be softer,” she explained. “I just don’t think I’ve ever really been with someone who has held me on a pedestal of, like, ‘You’re as good as it’s ever gonna get. You are amazing. I love you.’”
Julie countered with a dose of realism, reminding her daughter that no marriage is “Instagram perfect” every day. Relationships, she stressed, require compromise and patience.
The Chrisleys’ New Chapter
Julie’s appearance on the podcast comes just months after she and Todd were officially released from prison on May 28, 2024, following a presidential pardon from Donald Trump. The couple had been serving time for tax evasion and bank fraud charges since January 2023.
Their release has given the Chrisley family a new beginning, though the scars of the past two years remain. Todd’s hopes for Savannah’s wedding may now symbolize more than just a father’s dream — they represent his desire for family unity and tradition after a turbulent chapter in their lives.
What Lies Ahead
For now, Savannah remains focused on building her life after heartbreak and family turmoil. Whether she chooses a lavish wedding or a quiet ceremony abroad, one thing is certain: her decision will carry enormous weight for her father, who continues to dream of the big family celebration he has always wanted.
And as Julie put it simply: “Your dad would be devastated.”
