Mark Ramsey could be leaving “Moonshiners” after Season 14
WHERE IS MARK RAMSEY NOW? MOONSHINERS LEGEND FACES LEGAL HEAT, DISTILLING ROADBLOCKS, AND A FAMILY LEGACY TO PROTECT
Since its premiere in 2011, Moonshiners has captured a unique blend of American tradition, danger, and humor. The show has introduced audiences to the hidden world of spirits distillation—often skirting the law, always driven by passion. And few embody that spirit more than Mark Ramsey.
But now, fans are asking: Where is Mark Ramsey? Has he left Moonshiners for good? And what happened to his long-time partnership with Eric “Digger” Manes?
WARNINGS FROM THE LAW
In Season 14 of Moonshiners, the Tennessee-based duo faced a major scare. A local law enforcement officer warned Mark that a case was being built against him for alleged illegal distilling. It wasn’t the first time they had flirted with danger—but this time felt different.
Realizing the risks, Mark and Digger made the difficult decision to step back. They handed operations over to their trusted friend “Killer Beaz” while they laid low and passed on their secrets. While their departure was never announced as permanent, it marked a turning point in their journey.
COPPER, COPS, AND CLOSE CALLS
Earlier in Season 11, Mark and Digger were busted in a rented basement. Though not arrested, they received a stern warning: complaints were circulating, and authorities were watching. That episode captured their dilemma perfectly—“We’re not in handcuffs yet, but honestly, we don’t know what the future holds,” Mark said.
It wasn’t just the law they had to worry about. In Season 14, rising copper prices led them to track down long-hidden still parts. But what they found was a blow: vandals had tampered with their mountain site, cutting off their best source of limestone water—an essential ingredient for their whiskey.
BEYOND THE STILL: MARK’S BUSINESS EMPIRE
Despite their TV troubles, Mark Ramsey hasn’t slowed down. He and Digger are deeply involved in the licensed liquor world. They’re part of the Sugarlands Distilling Company’s Legends Series, which preserves traditional recipes—like their hazelnut moonshine inspired by mentor Marvin “Popcorn” Sutton.
They’re also connected to Adventure Distilling Co. in Tennessee, where Mark’s wife Sally Jane Clark plays a major role. Her own cinnamon-flavored spirit, Sin-a-Shine, is produced by South Mountain Distilling Co., showing that the moonshine tradition runs deep in the Ramsey family.
GOING BEYOND THE BOTTLE
Mark and Digger have also dipped into innovation with products like “Mowing with a Breeze,” a helmet-like allergy and odor shield designed for outdoor workers. Though the product originated in Texas, Mark and Digger are the faces of its marketing campaign.
Their fame has even merged with motorsports. In 2018, Sugarlands partnered with NASCAR, making moonshine its official spirit. Mark embraced the racing world, calling Talladega Superspeedway his “home track” and praising fans for their support.
ON CAMERA AND BEYOND
In addition to Moonshiners, Mark has appeared in numerous spin-offs and specials:
-
Shiners on Shine (2017)
-
Master Distiller (since 2019)
-
Master Distiller: Tournament of Champions
-
Expedition X (2021, “Terror in Appalachia” episode)
Even Dolly Parton’s charity special Smoky Mountain Rise featured the moonshiner legend.
TRADITION AND REALITY
The question always lingers: how real is Moonshiners? In 2017, Mark addressed it bluntly in an interview: “It’s authentic. We can’t let ourselves be found by the law—it’s very much against the law.”
Still, the Virginia ABC Bureau previously stated that no crimes were being filmed, likely because any illegal acts would have to be caught in real-time—not on tape months later.
Regardless, Mark Ramsey and Digger Manes have built something bigger than a still in the woods. They’ve preserved an American tradition, faced the risks head-on, and created a legacy that lives well beyond television.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Mark may not be in front of the camera every episode anymore, but his spirit (and spirits) are still part of the Moonshiners universe. Whether dodging the law, launching new flavors, or mentoring the next generation, Mark Ramsey remains a vital part of the moonshine story.
Stay tuned. This story isn’t over.
