Giant Chain Bull Heads to Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm for Charity – Will Jeremy Clarkson Make a Bid?

In an exciting blend of creativity, charity, and farming culture, a County Durham farmer is embarking on a quirky fundraising tour featuring a giant metal bull, and the highlight of the journey will see the sculpture arriving at none other than Jeremy Clarkson’s famous Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire.

The towering bull, made entirely from lengths of chain, was crafted by Steven Nesbitt, a farmer from Winston, County Durham, during a period of personal health struggles. What began as a project to keep himself occupied during a recovery from heart problems has blossomed into a fundraising venture that will travel across the UK to raise awareness for two significant causes: the British Heart Foundation and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

A Labour of Love – The Bull’s Creation

Nesbitt, who is also the president of the British Charolais Cattle Society, decided to take his passion for farming and animal skeletons and turn it into an artistic project. Using metal chains, he painstakingly welded together a life-sized bull sculpture, which has become the focal point of his charity efforts.

“It’s a real labour of love,” Nesbitt says of the project. “During my recovery, I wanted to stay busy, so I started using chain metal to create animal skeletons. When I finished the bull, it was something special. It felt like the right time to turn it into something more, to give back and raise money for causes close to my heart.”

Supporting the British Heart Foundation and Motor Neurone Disease Association

The inspiration behind Nesbitt’s charitable journey comes from personal experience and a deep desire to make a difference. One of the charities, the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), holds special significance for him as he is supporting his close friend Cath Muir, a campaigner and advocate who lives with the disease.

“I wanted to do something meaningful for both charities,” Nesbitt says. “I have a friend who lives with MND, and her courage has inspired me to do something big. And of course, supporting the British Heart Foundation is close to my own experiences with heart problems. Both causes deserve more attention and support.”

The Bull’s Tour Begins

The journey kicks off in Darlington on May 16 at the Darlington Farmers Auction Mart, where Nesbitt will officially launch the bull’s fundraising campaign. From there, the sculpture will head to various farming events, including the Great British Farm Fest, before it arrives at Clarkson’s own Diddly Squat Farm for the Cereals Arable Event on June 10-11.

Nesbitt, known for his farming expertise and for raising rare Hungarian Racka sheep, hopes the attention from Clarkson’s fans and the farming community will give his campaign the visibility it needs to raise substantial funds. The iconic Diddly Squat Farm, featured in Clarkson’s hit show Clarkson’s Farm, will offer a prime spot for the bull to be showcased in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

The Final Stop: Auction in Scotland

After its time at Diddly Squat, the bull will continue its journey, eventually concluding at the Stirling Bull Sales in Scotland on October 24. Here, the bull will be auctioned off, with half of the proceeds going to the British Heart Foundation and the MNDA. The auction itself is expected to draw attention, as the uniqueness of the bull sculpture makes it an intriguing piece for potential buyers.

In addition to the auction, Nesbitt plans to raise more funds by organizing competitions where people can guess the bull’s weight or the length of the chain used in its construction. These fun activities are designed to get more people involved in supporting the charities while also spreading awareness about the causes.

Could Clarkson Join the Cause?

As part of his ambitions for the campaign, Nesbitt has one cheeky hope: that Jeremy Clarkson himself will take an interest in the bull. “Who knows, maybe Clarkson will like it so much that he’ll put in a bid to have it at Diddly Squat,” says Nesbitt with a smile. “It would be great if he did. This is all about raising awareness and making a real difference, so if Clarkson sees the value in it, even better!”

Nesbitt is aware that the journey won’t be easy, but he’s optimistic that his commitment to the cause will pay off. “This isn’t just about raising money for charity,” he says. “It’s about doing something that can have a lasting impact. I’m hoping that the bull and the tour will capture people’s imaginations and help make a real difference for both the British Heart Foundation and the MNDA.”

Clarkson’s Farm and a Growing Legacy

Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm has become a cultural touchstone thanks to Clarkson’s Farm, where Jeremy Clarkson’s humorous take on farming has won the hearts of viewers worldwide. The show has also played a major role in bringing attention to Clarkson’s various business ventures, including the Diddly Squat Farm Shop, and now the pub, The Farmer’s Dog.

The presence of Nesbitt’s bull at Diddly Squat Farm during the Cereals Arable Event would tie perfectly into the farming community’s enthusiasm for creativity and charitable work. With Clarkson’s widespread popularity, the event could also serve as an excellent platform for raising awareness for the charities.

Conclusion: Making a Difference with Art and Charity

Nesbitt’s giant chain bull represents more than just a piece of metal art. It is a symbol of resilience, community spirit, and the power of using one’s talents for a good cause. While the road ahead is long and filled with challenges, Nesbitt’s determination to make a positive impact is evident in every step of this ambitious project. With Clarkson’s endorsement and the bull’s upcoming tour, this charity challenge could become one of the most talked-about initiatives of the year.

As the bull heads to Diddly Squat and beyond, its mission to raise awareness and funds for the British Heart Foundation and the Motor Neurone Disease Association has the potential to change lives—one chain link at a time.
