Clarkson Exposes Woman’s Outrageous Compensation Demand at His Pub.

Jeremy Clarkson Faces “Epidemic” of False Food Intolerance Claims as Pub Troubles Mount

Jeremy Clarkson’s life as a farmer and pub landlord has been anything but smooth sailing, and his latest revelations paint a troubling picture of what he calls an “epidemic” sweeping across the UK hospitality industry. The Clarkson’s Farm star has disclosed that his Cotswolds pub, The Farmer’s Dog, has recently been targeted by a customer seeking thousands of pounds in damages over a supposed case of food intolerance—one Clarkson insists was completely fabricated.

A Customer’s Costly Claim

Writing in his column for The Times, the 64-year-old broadcaster explained how one female customer alleged she had mistakenly been served beer instead of cider. According to her, the gluten in the beer made her so unwell that she was forced to cancel an upcoming holiday. The woman then demanded Clarkson compensate her for the cancellation costs—a substantial payout that could have run into thousands.

Fortunately for Clarkson and his staff, CCTV footage clearly showed that the woman had not touched any beer, safeguarding the pub from what he sees as a deliberate attempt at fraud. “Happily, we have her on CCTV not drinking beer, so we are safe on that one,” he wrote. “But often landlords aren’t so lucky. Many tell me this food intolerance fraud is now an epidemic.”

The Rise of “Faddy Eaters”

The incident prompted Clarkson to unleash one of his trademark rants. He argued that fraudulent food intolerance claims are part of a larger problem: the rise of what he calls “faddy eaters.” From gluten-free demands to exaggerated allergy claims, Clarkson believes that some diners are exploiting the system, leaving small businesses vulnerable to costly payouts and reputational damage.

“I know it would be commercial suicide,” he admitted, “but they are just so annoying.” Half joking, half serious, Clarkson even mused about banning customers with dietary restrictions altogether, highlighting his exasperation at what he sees as unreasonable behavior.

Pub Life in the Real World

Clarkson also pulled back the curtain on the day-to-day realities of running The Farmer’s Dog, which he co-owns with business partner Rupert. Far from being a quaint country watering hole, the pub has faced a litany of bizarre and unpleasant challenges. Clarkson revealed that staff have had to contend with everything from drunken punch-ups to unspeakable discoveries in the toilets. In one especially graphic example, he joked that one day Rupert might stumble across a bathroom “pebbledashed with a gallon of diarrhoea” after a night of heavy drinking.

While his blunt humor softens the edges of the story, Clarkson’s comments reflect the difficulties that many landlords face in balancing customer service with maintaining order and financial stability.

A Costly Cyberattack

The food intolerance saga is only the latest headache for Clarkson. Earlier this year, he revealed that cyber criminals hacked into The Farmer’s Dog’s accounting system and stole £27,000. The attack went largely unnoticed by the media at the time, overshadowed by high-profile hacks at Jaguar Land Rover, M&S, and the Co-op.

“And we are told similar attacks were launched in recent months on both M&S and the Co-op,” Clarkson wrote in his Sun column. “But no one thought to mention that my pub, The Farmer’s Dog, has been hit too. It was though. Someone broke into our accounting system and helped themselves to £27,000.”

He offered few details about how the breach occurred, leaving it unclear whether the money was ever recovered. The revelation underscores the fact that cybercrime isn’t just a threat to big corporations—it can devastate small businesses, too.

Clarkson’s Relentless Challenges

For Clarkson, the series of setbacks—from fraudulent claims to cyber theft—add to the ever-growing list of obstacles he has faced since leaving the world of fast cars behind to run Diddly Squat Farm and now his pub. Planning disputes, supply shortages, and legal battles with local councils have already tested his patience and resilience. The pub, once envisioned as a new cornerstone of his rural empire, is now another battleground in Clarkson’s war against bureaucracy, opportunists, and sheer bad luck.

Still, Clarkson is unlikely to throw in the towel. His candid reflections, peppered with sarcasm and dark humor, show a man determined to keep going no matter how absurd the obstacles. For fans of Clarkson’s Farm and his long-time supporters, these challenges only reinforce the appeal of his story: the clash between one of television’s most outspoken personalities and the unpredictable realities of rural life.
